The greater Orion Group was founded in 1991 by C.E.O. Franz Gmeiner. The group mainly consists of four divisions – Orion Real Estate, Orion Hotels & Resorts, Orion Business Solutions, aka OBS, and Bakwena Day Spa.
Originally formed in 1991 with the purchase of Intec House in downtown Johannesburg’s financial district, the company has grown steadily and evolved into property holding investments in excess of R1 Billion. Orion currently manages both listed and private property portfolios.
A steady flow of acquisitions resulted in the 1996 purchase of the Devonshire office tower and hotel complex, in the Braamfontein precinct of Johannesburg. In March 1999, the hotel operations of Hotel Devonshire were taken over from the tenant, and this was the beginning of the current Orion Hotels portfolio of 14 hotels, resorts and lodges.
Orion Business Solutions was established in 2004 as a result of the Group’s rapid expansion strategy. Orion Business Solutions has since then formalised and standardised its structures, methodologies and procedures in such a manner that will see them contributing positively to the overall Orion Group’s vision and targets.
In 2012, Orion Business Solutions expanded their footprint by offering an unforgettable Day Spa experience to organisations by offering them corporate wellness to assist them to manage the stress levels of their managers and executives. The Bakwena Spa brand was born with the intention to offer an innovative and creative approach to spa and spa therapy in South Africa.
Orion Business Solutions; internally referred to as ‘OBS’, provides coaching & training interventions for various levels of management for the Orion Group.
Today most of Orion Group’s teams are trained as well as coached by Orion Business Solutions.
